The true American success story of The Clausen Company is one of two friends who always dreamed of owning their own business and who took a chance on a new polyester autobody filler product. Hans Clausen, a plumber, and Tyrus W. Peck, a chemist, pioneers in the automotive aftermarket founded the business in 1957. But only half a dream came true. Clausen died in July 1961 without realizing the dream he had always had.

Situated in the heart of Central Jersey’s secondary petrochemical processing industries, under the leadership of the Peck Family, The Clausen Company has always employed a diverse work force. Many employees have enjoyed working their full working careers here with fully paid benefits. With flexible hours and a unique four-day workweek, employees have more time to be involved with their families.

In addition to being philanthropic, The Clausen Company maintains an energy conservation program, including recycling, and is proud of its environmental commitment. We have no underground chemical storage and have received a New Jersey D.E.P. clean site citation.

As a family-owned business, The Clausen Company has been a driving force in innovation, manufacturing a full line of high quality, professional, unique and problem-solving automotive refinishing products, which are both time and labor savers, and designed to simplify professional autobody repair.

In 1975 The Clausen Company was the first to successfully produce and market internationally a lightweight autobody filler under the brand name, Classic Plastic, which replaced the old-style heavy weight product, saving time and labor, with easy application and much less dust and waste.

In 1985 The Clausen Company introduced the first self-etching products by any company in the United States. These products are Z-Chrome Autobody Filler, Z-Glas Fiberglass Reinforced Filler and Rust Defender Hi-Build Polyester Primer. All are designed to adhere to zinc-dipped or galvanized sheet metal and renew the “corrosion protection system” offered by O.E. Manufacturers.

In 1990 The Clausen Company introduced two additional self-etching products, Lighten-Up, an ultra-white lightweight premium autobody filler designed to eliminate top coat staining, and Z-Glaze, a soft sanding ultra white lightweight polyester glazing putty that prevents bleedthrough and adheres to galvanized and zinc coated surfaces.

After 15 years of producing self-etching autobody, fiberglass fillers and polyester primers, The Clausen Company introduced another “first” in the industry, All-U-Need, the ultimate hi-build, “one step” polyester Primer-Surfacer-Sealer, compatible with all paints and primers, and the “first” polyester primer available in Light Gray, Dark Gray, Tan, White and Red colors. As with our other innovative product ideas, a guide coat was developed within this product. The guide coat allows users to easily detect low or high areas in their panels.
