PRIMING TECHNICAL DATA COMPARISON
B.A.S.F. OFFERS THE FOLLOWING PRIMING SYSTEM
Step 1. From bare metal to base coat. Use etching primer DE17 or
DE18.
Step 2. Primer-Surfacer DP20 or DP21 Tintable. Tinting is
recommended to correlate with top color.
Step 3. Sealer EP589 is applied over DP20 or DP21.
Step 4. Diamont Base or other R.M. Base Coats, then Clear.

P.P.G. OFFERS THE FOLLOWING PRIMING SYSTEM
Step 1. From bare metal to base coat. Etching Primer DX 1791/DX or
DP Epoxy Primer/DP 402 Fast Epoxy Primer Catalyst.
Step 2. Primer Sealer: K 36 PRIMA 4:2:1:2 tinted with DCC or DMC to
match top coat color or use Primer Surfacer: K 36 PRIMA (5:1:1) or
NCP 250/NCX 255 (4:1:1
Step 3. Use K-36 as a sealer by changing reduction and hardener.
Step 4. PPG Base Coat then Clear.

DUPONT OFFERS THE FOLLOWING PRIMING SYSTEM
Step 1. From bare metal to base coat. Etching Primer 615 or 616.
Step 2. Primer Surfacer: 4004 2K Building Primer.
Step 3. Use Primer Sealer 42470
Step 4. Dupont Base Coat then Clear
The cure time required for all three
companies listed is approximately 4 hours which requires 4 hours of
labor cost. In addition to the average cost of the product, which is
$400.00.
CLAUSEN OFFERS THE FOLLOWING PRIMING SYSTEM
Our single priming product All-U-Need, accomplishes steps 1,2 & 3.
This product is self-etching, very high-build (86% solids) and seals
at the same time. At 70 degrees this product can be based in 1 hour,
not 4 hours.
Our list price is $130.00 a gallon which is one fourth (1/4) of the
cost of all major paint companies’ products and a labor savings of
three working hours.
